One of the newest credit cards to hit the market, the Direct Express® card, operates differently than many other cards because it's not linked to a bank account and is reloadable with cash. As a result, this card comes with some distinct advantages and possible drawbacks you should consider before applying.

The Direct Express® card is a prepaid debit card that allows recipients of government benefits to receive their payments online. Your government benefit payment is automatically transferred each month on your payment day into your card account when you use a Direct Express® card.

Updates

Some of the new features that Direct Express® offers in 2022 are a mobile app, updates on your card balances and transactions, and free reloads.

With a mobile app, you can add money to your account, view balances and transactions, check the balance on your card in stores or online, and set up alerts.

Updates on your card balances and transactions will be delivered to your email address every day at 4:00 PM EST.

The mobile app can be downloaded for free by cardholders whose cards begin with the number 511563.

Do not download this app if your credit card number starts with 533248, but download the other one in the app store where the description states that it's suitable for this number.

How to use it?

On your device, download the Direct Express app.

Go to"Activate / Register Card"and click. You will be prompted to enter your card details on the mobile app:

Your 16-digit card number should be entered in the top field. TIP: Cardholders whose card numbers start with 5115 63 are eligible to use this mobile app.

Choose two security photos from the drop-down menu below.

Choose Next.
