Nest

The Nest app makes it easy to learn about your home, control your Nest products, and save energy and money from your smartphone or tablet. Set up alerts to know when someone's home or away, get notifications when the doorbell rings, and even adjust your thermostat from across town - all from the palm of your hand!

Updates

In addition to the issues with the new Nest products, Google has been struggling with support for older Nest devices.

The original Nest cameras can be used with both the Nest and Google Home apps. However, the latter offers somewhat fewer features. Even while I prefer the Nest app, the Home app still lacks notifications and does not support viewing history. As for the latter, Google promised it almost a year ago, but there has been no further development.

PROS

It's easy to use and clean.

You can schedule your thermostat to turn on and off automatically.

It tells you when you need to change your filter.

You can set it up so that you don't have to go through every menu item to find what you're looking for.

HD Talk and Listen allows smooth door-to-door conversations.

You can use rapid answers to send taped audio messages to guests when you can't personally greet them.

Instead of sharing keys, use the Nest app to assign passcodes.

Get notified when the door is locked or unlocked.

CONS

It doesn't possess compatibility with IFTTT and sharing to social media.

It doesn't allow you to set schedules. If you're out of town or away from your phone, you can't schedule a specific temperature for when you'll be back.

 It's a little buggy.

How to use it?

To start using the Nest app, connect your iOS or Android device to Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code on your thermostat or following these steps:

1) Go to Settings on your phone

2) Choose Wi-Fi

3) Select Network

4) Choose Nest Network

5) Enter the password

6) Once connected, open up the app!

More

The Nest app lets you operate your Nest thermostat, arm and deactivate Nest Secure, watch your house with Nest Cam, and get alerts if Nest Protect goes off. Also, you receive notifications on your Android phone or tablet.

Whether it's a notification that someone turned off your system while you were out or a sensor alerting you to a window opening unexpectedly - everything is under control with the Nest mobile app.
